Tourism No.1 Salesman, Mayor Park Hyung-jun
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 8th at 5 p.m., Busan City will hold the ‘Busan City Invitation Tourism Industry Briefing’ at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul, targeting representatives and officials from the metropolitan area tourism industry, including the Korea Tourism Organization (President Kim Jang-sil).
This is the first time since its establishment that Mayor Park Hyung-jun, who calls himself the ‘No. 1 Salesman of Busan Tourism,’ has personally invited metropolitan area tourism industry officials to hold a Busan tourism briefing. This reflects a strong determination to make tourism a key future growth industry for Busan and to proactively respond to changing tourism trends, turning crises into opportunities.
With the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism declaring 2023 as the ‘First Year of a Tourism Powerhouse’ and promoting it as the ‘Year of Visiting Korea’ for foreign tourists, the city has prepared an aggressive promotional marketing event to actively inform tourism industry officials about Busan as an attractive tourist city to the world, aiming to revitalize inbound tourism in Busan.
At the briefing, the focus will be on promoting the ▲‘Busan Tourism Brand’ with Busan’s unique colors and its slogan ‘Play.Work.Live, the city you want to enjoy, work, and live in.’ It will also actively highlight Busan’s image as a city with ▲global intellectual property (IP)-based tourism content such as Pinkfong Baby Shark, Artium Museum, and 9.81 Park. Additionally, the event will provide the latest information on various experiential activities, events, distinctive themed tourist attractions, restaurants, and accommodations unique to Busan, along with guidance on tourism industry support incentive projects. Through networking with the metropolitan tourism industry, agreements will be made for joint development and joint promotion of tourism products.
Having been stagnant due to COVID-19, the tourism industry is expected to gain new momentum with the 2030 Busan World Expo, which is scheduled for an on-site inspection in April and final host city selection at the end of November. The event plans to request support and encouragement for the Expo from attending tourism industry and overseas tourism office officials.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “We plan to regularly hold Busan tourism briefings for travel industry personnel to continuously expand exchanges with tourism industry officials.” He added, “Busan is gaining recognition not only for its sights and attractions but also as a city of gourmet cuisine. We will do our best to make Busan an international tourism city with globally recognized tourism content such as workations that combine work and rest.”
