[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwanju] As the winter resurgence of COVID-19 has clearly shifted to a declining trend, the domestic quarantine situation is also being maintained stably.
Park Minsu, the 1st General Coordinator of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) and the 2nd Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, stated in the CDSCH meeting opening remarks on the 8th, "The 7th wave is noticeably subsiding."
He continued, "The number of confirmed cases, which was close to 90,000 per day two months ago, has dropped to the 10,000 range," adding, "Last week's daily average confirmed cases also decreased for six consecutive weeks to the 16,000 range, and the infection reproduction number has been below 1 at 0.90 for five consecutive weeks."
Park also noted that the scale of confirmed cases entering from China is not large. He said, "Among 335 short-term stay arrivals from China yesterday, only one was confirmed positive," and "Last week, only 25 were confirmed, recording a low positivity rate of 1.4%."
He emphasized, "The stable maintenance of the domestic and international situation like this is thanks to the voluntary participation of the public and cooperation of local governments," and urged, "I ask all citizens to continue to unite their efforts to overcome COVID-19 through adherence to daily rules such as hand washing and indoor ventilation, as well as vaccination."
He also requested, "Local governments should thoroughly manage confirmed cases imported from overseas, and each city and provincial office of education and schools should make every effort to ensure school quarantine management in preparation for the upcoming school reopening."
