Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Forward 142 out of 723 Public Interest Reports to Prosecutors Gyeonggi Provincial Government Gwanggyo New Office Building

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] It has been revealed that Gyeonggi Province referred 142 out of 723 public interest reports received over the past two years to the prosecution.


The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police for Public Welfare announced on the 8th that among a total of 723 public interest reports related to investigations in 2021 and 2022?404 cases in 2021 and 319 cases in 2022?142 cases were found to involve illegal activities and were referred to the prosecution after investigation.


Among the 142 cases referred to the prosecution by the Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police, 25 cases?15 in 2021 and 10 in 2022?were selected for public interest report rewards, and a total of 31.98 million KRW was paid as rewards.


By sector, the environmental field accounted for the largest number with 20 cases, followed by fire safety with 3 cases, public hygiene with 1 case, and animal protection with 1 case.


Earlier, in 2019, Gyeonggi Province fully revised and implemented the 'Gyeonggi Province Public Interest Report Protection and Support Ordinance,' introducing a reward system for whistleblowers.


When administrative or judicial actions are completed and the case is evaluated as contributing to public interest, the 'Gyeonggi Province Public Interest Report Support Committee' reviews and approves the case, and rewards are paid to the whistleblowers accordingly.


Hong Eun-gi, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police for Public Welfare, stated, "Public interest reports resulting from the active participation of residents in illegal activities can provide important clues during investigations. The confidentiality of whistleblowers is strictly guaranteed, and the active participation of residents is more essential than anything else to create a fair and safe Gyeonggi Province."
