[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The chronic traffic congestion at Terminal Intersection in Kimryangjang-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do will be resolved.
Cheoin-gu Office announced on the 8th that it plans to expand the lanes from 2 to 3 in the direction from the back gate three-way intersection of Cheoin-gu Office to Terminal Intersection, and use the 3rd lane exclusively for right turns.
Currently, the 1st lane on this road operates as a left-turn lane, and the 2nd lane operates as a lane for straight, left, and right turns.
Even during the straight and left turn signal, vehicles intending to turn right stop in the 2nd lane, causing severe traffic congestion. Due to pedestrian signals, vehicles attempting to turn right often brake suddenly, leading to frequent rear-end collisions. Seven rear-end collisions have occurred in the past year.
To alleviate the congestion of right-turning vehicles, Cheoin-gu will adjust the width of the sidewalk and roadway to newly install a right-turn lane that is 50 meters long and 3 meters wide.
They have completed consultations with related agencies to relocate utility poles and trees, and plan to start construction within this month and complete the work within the first half of this year.
An official from the district said, "We expect that the improvement of the traffic system will reduce congestion during commuting hours and smooth the flow of vehicles at Terminal Intersection," adding, "We will continue to identify and improve sections with chronic congestion or high accident risk."
