Results of the Nationwide Crackdown in the Second Half of Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 8th that from November 7 to November 25 last year, it conducted a nationwide crackdown on the illegal distribution of local love gift certificates in 232 local governments across the country, resulting in a total of 104 cases being caught.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has been conducting regular nationwide crackdowns on the illegal distribution of local love gift certificates every half year since 2021 to establish a sound distribution order for local love gift certificates.
Looking at the crackdown results, the number of cases increased by 24 compared to the first half of the year (80 cases → 104 cases), while on-site guidance decreased by 574 cases (707 cases → 133 cases). By type of gift certificate, violations were most frequent with paper-type gift certificates at 80 cases, followed by card-type at 17 cases, and mobile-type at 7 cases.
Based on the results of this crackdown, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to promote various measures to eradicate the illegal distribution of local love gift certificates. Along with this, the Ministry will continue to conduct nationwide crackdowns every half year to promptly detect illegal distribution of local love gift certificates.
Choi Byung-kwan, Director of the Local Finance and Economy Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, stated, “Through the establishment of an organic crackdown system among the Ministry, local governments, and operating agencies, we will make greater efforts to eradicate cases of unfair profits obtained by abusing local love gift certificates.”
