[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The United States released footage on the 7th (local time) showing the recovery of debris from a Chinese reconnaissance balloon shot down over the coast of South Carolina.

The U.S. Navy distributed photos of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel recovering debris from the Chinese high-altitude reconnaissance balloon on the 5th.

Earlier, the U.S. shot down an aerial object suspected to be a Chinese reconnaissance balloon using fighter jets and other aircraft. The object fell into the sea after being shot down, and the Navy and Coast Guard vessels were deployed to secure the debris. The U.S. military deployed EOD teams in case the balloon was carrying explosives.

Glenn VanHerck, commander of the U.S. Northern Command, stated in a briefing the previous day that the balloon debris was scattered over an area approximately 2.25 km wide. He explained that unmanned underwater vehicles and sonar detectors are being used to locate debris at a depth of 50 ft (about 15 m).

The U.S. government plans to analyze the reconnaissance equipment used by China and the intent behind sending the balloon based on the recovered debris.
