[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will support up to 300,000 KRW for language and qualification exam fees for unemployed youth within the province this year. This project was established as a pledge of the 8th local government administration to provide more equitable opportunities for Gyeonggi youth to acquire qualification standards (specs).
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that the exam fee support project, which was independently promoted in some cities and counties such as Ansan and Anyang, will be conducted in 28 cities and counties excluding Seongnam, Osan, and Gapyeong, which were excluded this year due to reasons such as independent project promotion.
Youth in the 28 cities and counties (youth age according to city/county ordinances) who are unemployed as of the exam date for which they want to receive the exam fee can apply through the Gyeonggi Job Foundation integrated application system during the first and second halves of the year, in May-June and October-November respectively. If the exam is in December, they can apply the following year.
Exam fees for 19 types of language tests including TOEIC, 544 types of national technical qualifications including Korean history, and 95 types of nationally certified private qualifications will be reimbursed at actual cost. The maximum annual support amount per youth is 300,000 KRW. Up to 100,000 KRW per exam can be received up to three times. However, for youth who mainly take low-cost exams, exam fees for more than three exams can be supported within a total annual amount of 100,000 KRW.
The province will invest a total budget of 4.14 billion KRW and provide support on a first-come, first-served basis until the project funds for each city and county are exhausted.
The province expects about 23,000 people to benefit from this program.
