[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] At around 6:18 PM on the 7th, a fire broke out in an SM5 passenger car traveling toward Gangnam inside the Namsan 3rd Tunnel in Seoul.
The fire department deployed 22 vehicles and 79 personnel to extinguish the fire by 6:54 PM, 36 minutes later. The driver of the vehicle caught on fire evacuated on their own, so there were no casualties.
To carry out the firefighting operation, traffic in both directions toward Gangnam and downtown was sequentially restricted from 6:20 PM, causing inconvenience for commuters. Two-way traffic resumed around 7 PM. The police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire by questioning the vehicle driver.
