7 Minutes of Standing Ovation After Screening, Selected as Closing Film
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Indieplus Pohang will regularly screen the film "Next Sohee," starring acclaimed actress Bae Doona and talented newcomer Kim Si-eun, starting February 8.
"Next Sohee" is the first Korean film to be selected as the closing film of the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival, marking a remarkable achievement and establishing its presence worldwide.
Actress Bae Doona, known for her reliable performances in every work, reunited with director Jung Joo-ri after 8 years since "Dohee-ya," drawing attention.
Based on the true story of the "2017 Jeonju Call Center," the film heightens anticipation with a powerful narrative about Sohee, a confident eighteen-year-old high school student, who encounters various incidents during her field training and faces intense experiences in different timelines.
Director Jung Joo-ri's solid screenplay and direction stand out in this work, which has received a series of awards from prestigious international film festivals including Cannes Film Festival, Amiens International Film Festival, Fantasia Film Festival, and Tokyo FILMeX.
Rotten Tomatoes (a U.S. film-related website) freshness score reached an impressive 92%, proving its artistic quality and eliciting strong empathy across gender, nationality, and age groups.
At Indieplus Pohang, in addition to "Next Sohee," various films will be screened, including "Maybe We Broke Up," a breakup report starring Lee Dong-hwi and Jung Eun-chae that depicts the process of a loved one becoming a stranger and realistic separation, and "Last Bus," an emotional story about a grandfather left alone who embarks on a journey to a place filled with memories.
An official from Indieplus Pohang said, "We hope you enjoy the solid storytelling, the charming performances of Bae Doona and Kim Si-eun, and the social message filled with empathy at the reasonable price of 3,500 won," adding, "Please note the partially changed screening times and make reservations accordingly."
Indieplus Pohang adjusted its movie screening times starting February 1 this year for feature films. From Wednesday to Saturday, screenings are at 1:30 PM, 4:30 PM, and 7:30 PM, and on Sundays and public holidays, screenings are at 10:00 AM, 1:30 PM, and 4:30 PM.
