The 8th Meeting is Scheduled for the 28th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 7th that it held the 7th meeting of the 'Police System Development Committee' at the Government Seoul Office.
In this meeting, following the 6th meeting, discussions were held regarding the National Police Commission and the Korean National Police University, as well as discussions on supplementing the command system of the police by the Minister of the Interior and Safety.
First, regarding the first agenda item, the National Police Commission, various discussions were held on the future development plans of the National Police Commission, including its status and role, affiliation, and composition of members.
Regarding the second agenda item, reform of the Korean National Police University, discussions among committee members were conducted on various considerations and pros and cons of different plans, including maintaining the Police University but implementing an entrance exam for graduates to become police lieutenants, or abolishing the Police University and reorganizing it as an institution for training police executives.
Regarding the command system of the Minister of the Interior and Safety, it was pointed out that the Minister does not have practical command and supervisory authority over the police in relation to the Itaewon tragedy. In this context, a case report and related discussions were conducted on the current status of the Ministry of Justice's inspection and disciplinary authority over the Prosecutor's Office and the reporting system.
Regarding the dual system of autonomous police, the progress of discussions by the Autonomous Police Subcommittee was summarized, and future plans for promoting the dual system of autonomous police were reported.
Regarding field security, discussions were held on improving the response to 112 emergency calls and on legal and institutional improvement measures for protecting crime victims and preventing retaliation.
The next meeting is scheduled to be held on the 28th.
