Suncheon-si Implements Priority Signal System for Emergency Vehicles to Secure Golden Time

Trial Operation from the 8th to the 17th

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Heo Seonsik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that starting this year, fire trucks and ambulances will be given priority passage rights, allowing emergency vehicles to receive green signals first and pass through intersections when dispatched.

The city has established an emergency vehicle priority signal system so that emergency vehicles can move without stopping until reaching their destination, securing the golden time, and will conduct a pilot operation from the 8th to the 17th.

This system, built as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Intelligent Transportation System national subsidy project, allows the traffic control center to link traffic signals to green for the dispatch section when the destination is set on the terminal installed in the emergency vehicle, enabling passage through intersections without waiting for signals, and returns to normal signals after passing the intersection.

Until now, emergency vehicle dispatch times were delayed due to traffic congestion and exposed to traffic accident risks, but the city expects that the introduction of the priority signal system will greatly contribute to securing golden time to protect citizens' lives and safety and to accident prevention.

A Suncheon City official said, "When the priority signal system operates, waiting times at signals may temporarily increase, but we ask for active cooperation with the mindset of protecting the safety of yourself, your family, and neighbors," and added, "Since priority signals are given to emergency vehicles, there is a risk of accidents if you start moving anticipating signal changes, so please refrain from starting early."
