[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyeok] Naju City, Jeollanam-do, is promoting the ‘Crisis Escape Safe Home Set’ support project to prevent crimes against single women households.

According to the city on the 7th, this project provides free installation and rental costs for one year of the Safe Home Set, which consists of a ‘front door CCTV’ (Door Guard) and an ‘SOS emergency bell’.

The system features real-time video monitoring at the front door, detection and alerts for loiterers, two-way communication, and location sharing with family and acquaintances. In case of emergency, pressing the emergency bell triggers a 24-hour security company dispatch service.

This year’s support targets a total of 50 households, including single women aged 19 to under 64 residing in the jurisdiction and legally recognized single-parent mother households, who must have internet and Wi-Fi facilities.

Applications for the project must be submitted by the 28th by filling out the application form posted in the city hall website’s notice section, attaching a resident registration certificate, and submitting it in person or by mail to the Social Welfare Division of the city hall.

Priority will be given to women who have suffered stalking or residential intrusion, residents in high-crime areas, and those living in blind spots or vulnerable residential areas. Applicants will be notified individually of the selection results.

According to Statistics Korea, as of 2021, there are 19,171 single-person households in Naju City, of which 52.3% (10,029) are single women households, showing a 5.4% increase compared to the previous year, indicating a growing trend of single-person households.

Prior to this Safe Home Set support, the city has installed and operated women’s safety bells in 56 public restrooms, a system where pressing the bell in an emergency activates a flashing light and siren.

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “Through the Safe Home project, we will support the prevention of secondary damage to women who have experienced stalking crimes and help them recover a safe daily life. We will continue to build a dense safety net with customized policies that citizens can feel.”
