[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, has openly expressed opposition to the current government's policy of expanding reliance on nuclear power.

On the 7th, during the Gyeonggi Provincial Council's extraordinary session and provincial government speech, Governor Kim stated, "While the world is increasing the share of renewable energy to respond to climate change, the government plans to lower the 2030 renewable energy share target from 30% to 21.6%," adding, "Gyeonggi Province will actively respond to climate change and achieve RE100 to prepare for the future."

He particularly pointed out, "There are international concerns about major accidents and safety due to the government's excessive reliance and expansion of nuclear power generation, and considering the continuously generated high-risk nuclear waste, I question whether this is a 'sustainable energy policy.'"

Therefore, Governor Kim promised, "Within my term, we will achieve RE100 for Gyeonggi Province's public institutions, further mandate that newly established industrial complexes use only renewable energy, and significantly increase the supply ratio of renewable energy in existing industrial complexes."

He also added, "We will actively support and gradually mandate the achievement of RE100 in future development projects promoted by Gyeonggi Province."
