[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong-gun, designated last year as a population decline area, has come together to discover customized projects for the Local Extinction Response Fund.
According to the county on the 7th, a two-day working group practical workshop by sector for discovering projects under the Local Extinction Response Fund was held on the 6th and 7th.
The workshop, held at the Hampyeong County Art Museum, was attended by about 40 team leaders in charge of housing, transportation, welfare and medical care, culture and tourism, and economy.
The participants had time to discuss case studies on government population policies, share projects by department, discover new items, and focus on key projects by sector.
The county plans to establish a five-year basic plan to respond to population decline by actively reflecting opinions derived from interviews with village heads and department heads, surveys, and projects discovered during the workshop.
A county official said, "We hope this workshop was an opportunity to establish a unique local extinction response strategy for our county," adding, "We will continue to do our best to overcome the regional extinction crisis."
Meanwhile, the Local Extinction Response Fund is a system that provides differentiated support of 1 trillion won annually for 10 years starting in 2022 to 89 local governments designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as population decline areas for locally led responses to local extinction.
The county has secured a total budget of 12.6 billion won, including 5.4 billion won in 2022 and 7.2 billion won in 2023, and is promoting seven projects such as creating a flower cluster rural village and building youth job infrastructure.
