Eun Bong-hee, Gwangju Nam-gu Council Member, Proposes 'Sign Language Activation Support Ordinance'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Support for the hearing and speech impaired is expected to become more practical within public facilities in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.


The "Ordinance on the Installation of Convenience Facilities for the Hearing and Speech Impaired and Support for the Activation of Korean Sign Language in Public Facilities of Nam-gu," proposed by Eun Bong-hee, a member of the Nam-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City, was passed on the 7th at the 291st Extraordinary Session of the Social Construction Committee.


Once this ordinance is enacted, the district mayor must establish policies for installing convenience facilities to enhance the welfare and social participation of the hearing and speech impaired, and must strive to install and provide convenience facilities for them.

Councilor Eun stated, "With the enactment of this ordinance, I hope that hearing and speech impaired individuals, who face many difficulties in accessing information, will be able to receive help from convenience facilities, thereby aiding their social participation and foundation for independence."


The proposed ordinance, submitted on this day, is scheduled to be enacted through deliberation and resolution at the 2nd plenary session held on the 8th.
