Daehan Gwangbokdan Memorial Association "Will Commemorate the Founding of Gwangbokdan Every February 6"

[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Korean Liberation Corps Memorial Association declared February 6, 1913, the solar calendar date corresponding to the Lunar New Year of the year Gyeyuk (癸丑), as the "Korean Liberation Corps Founding Anniversary" in celebration of the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Korean Liberation Corps, and held a proclamation ceremony on the 6th.

The proclamation ceremony was held in front of the memorial tower at the Korean Liberation Corps Memorial Park in Punggi-eup, Yeongju-si, Gyeongbuk Province. About 40 members of the Korean Liberation Corps Memorial Association participated.

The exact founding date of the Korean Liberation Corps had not been clearly known. However, based on the statement in the book "History of the Liberation Corps" by founding member Han Hun, which states, "In the year Gyeyuk (1913), centered around Chae Gijung, Yu Changsun, Yu Jangyeol, Han Hun, Kang Byeongsu, Kim Byeongyeon, Jeong Mankyo, Kim Sangok, Jeong Unki, and Jeong Jinhwa organized the Korean Liberation Corps in Punggi..." the founding year was estimated to be 1913.

Additionally, regarding Yang Jean, a militia leader who was both a comrade and in-law of the first commander Chae Gijung, his second son Yang Hanwi recorded in "Yang Byeokdo Gong Jean Silgi" that "Chae Gijung combined the assets of the three families (Kim Bongcho, Jeong Seongsan, Chae Gijung) to secretly establish a revolutionary organization in Punggi (...) and Yang Jean went back to Manchuria in the first month of the year Gyeyuk..." which led to the conclusion that the founding took place in the first lunar month.

Accordingly, the Korean Liberation Corps Memorial Association regards the founding date of the Korean Liberation Corps as close to the first day of the first lunar month in 1913 and decided to commemorate the founding anniversary annually on February 6.
