[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Residents Association Scholarship Foundation will select 500 university and high school students to award scholarships. To this end, the scholarship foundation will accept applications from March 1 to 10.
The number of selected students includes 450 scholarship recipients (university students, junior college students, cyber university students, and open university students) and 50 special talent students (sports, arts). Selected students will receive scholarships ranging from 600,000 to 4,000,000 KRW per year.
Eligibility requires that from March 11, 2020, until now, the father or mother (or the applicant themselves if married) has continuously resided in the province for more than three years, and the applicant is currently enrolled in a domestic school or is a new (transfer) or returning student. Multiple children in a family can apply, and if the parents are deceased, the applicant can apply based on their own status.
University students must have a GPA of B0 or higher (3.0 on a 4.5 scale, with at least 12 credits earned) in the previous semester. For freshmen, the average percentile score of subjects on the CSAT transcript must be 80 or above, or the average grade in the third year of high school (either first or second semester) must be 80 or above.
The selection criteria for scholarship recipients (academic performance, income) are 70% income, 20% academic performance, 5% volunteer activity record, and 5% multiple children status. Families with disabilities receive up to 5 additional points depending on the degree of disability.
To enhance the objectivity of the main screening criterion, income evaluation is based on the income bracket (1 to 10) from the Korea Student Aid Foundation’s scholarship support notification. If not submitted, it is considered as bracket 10.
Special talent students in arts and sports are those who have won awards in national or metropolitan city/province-level competitions last year (high school, university, junior college students) and are evaluated based on the scale of the competition and award details regardless of academic performance.
Document submission is possible through the Gyeonggi-do Residents Association Scholarship Foundation or the reception office of the city/county where the applicant currently resides (refer to the reception offices on the Gyeonggi-do Residents Association website notice). Applications can only be submitted by registered mail.
For more detailed information regarding scholarship selection, please refer to the notices on the Gyeonggi-do Residents Association Scholarship Foundation website.
