Silk Industry, Eco-Friendly Transportation, and Tourism Revitalization
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam held a performance report meeting on overseas official training at the citizen hall on the 2nd floor of the city hall, attended by about 100 people including citizens, Jinju city-funded and related organizations, eup-myeon-dong, and city hall officials.
The report meeting held on the 6th was prepared to inform citizens of the achievements of the 2022 Italy overseas official training and to present new policies. From December 14 to 21 last year, the city council visited Como, a world-renowned silk production area, Milan, the economic center of Italy, and the capital Rome over six nights and eight days to observe new cultures and policies.
Previously, the city council established a five-step procedure to implement substantial overseas training. Step 1 was preliminary discussions by standing committees, Step 2 was in-depth learning by inviting experts on specific topics, Step 3 involved study activities visiting advanced policy sites and public institutions during the overseas official training, and Step 4 was this citizen performance report meeting.
Im Gi-hyang, Chairperson of the Operations Committee of Jinju City Council, Gyeongnam, is giving the overall report.
Step 5 is to directly report the results of the overseas official training to the plenary session rather than the standing committee, which is scheduled to be finalized by being submitted to the first plenary session on the 22nd.
During the previous overseas official training, the city council held meetings with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Milan and the KOTRA Milan Trade Center to secure cooperation for the re-advancement of Jinju silk.
They also directly observed and learned the cultural heritage restoration personnel training course at the Italian Institute for Conservation and Restoration (ISCR) in Rome, and visited the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Italy to receive advice from Lee Seong-ho, the ambassador, and the head of the national system initiative at Italy’s national policy investment bank CDP.
Additionally, they visited the Rome City Council and met with Chairman Alfonsi of the Agricultural Environment Waste Committee and city hall officials to discuss waste policies such as resource and energy circulation management in Rome in response to the increasing scale of waste.
A city council official said, “We made efforts to improve the shortcomings and concerns and criticisms from citizens during last year’s overseas official training,” adding, “We held the citizen performance report meeting to lay the foundation for field-centered overseas training that helps improve citizen welfare and revitalize the local economy.”
Chairman Yang Hae-young said, “This overseas official training received higher interest than ever before, so we made efforts to meet citizens’ expectations through more thorough preparation,” and evaluated, “It was greatly helpful in benchmarking excellent overseas cases to suit our region and laying the groundwork for strengthening the capabilities of council members who can support future city policy-making processes.”
