Ulleungdo, Jeongwol Daeboreum 'Dalmaji Nori Madang Event' Successfully Concluded

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kyungho Ahn] Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, held the ‘2023 Jangheung Dalmaji Playground’ event on the 5th at Sadong Ulleung Arts and Culture Experience Center (former Jangheung Elementary School).


Held to celebrate Jeongwol Daeboreum, when the moon is the largest and clearest of the year, about 500 Ulleung residents and tourists gathered to pray for peace and well-being throughout the year.

Starting with a pungmul performance by the Jangheung Nongak Troupe, the event created a lively atmosphere with traditional folk songs, a saxophone congratulatory performance, and folk games such as jegichagi (shuttlecock kicking), tuho (arrow throwing), and yutnori (traditional board game). The villagers shared Daeboreum foods such as gangjeong (sweet rice puffs), bureom (nuts), and namul (seasoned vegetables), along with traditional snacks, creating a harmonious gathering.


Hong Young-pyo, chairman of the Jangheung Dalmaji Playground Promotion Committee, which hosted the event, said, “We thank Ulleung-gun, Ulleung Police Station, the 119 Safety Center, and other related organizations for supporting us to hold this traditional cultural event after five years. We also express our gratitude to the Sadong Women’s Association, Sadong Village Chief, Saemaul leaders, and volunteer firefighters who worked hard to prepare the event.”


Nam Han-kwon, Ulleung-gun governor, said, “We wish to blow away all misfortunes in the moon house soaring high into the sky and pray for everyone’s health, well-being, and the harmony of the residents.”
