Incineration Facilities, Recycling Sorting Facilities, Food Waste Processing Facilities, etc.
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it has decided and announced the '2030 Urban Waste Comprehensive Treatment Facility Site Selection Plan' for the construction of a comprehensive waste treatment facility and has started public recruitment of candidate sites until the end of March.
The city plans to build an 'urban waste comprehensive treatment facility' as a countermeasure against the expiration of the durability of the existing incineration facility and the 'ban on direct landfill of household waste' in 2030.

▲ Incineration facility with a capacity of 350 tons/day ▲ Recycling sorting facility with a capacity of 30 tons/day ▲ Food waste treatment facility (biogasification) with a capacity of 150 tons/day will be constructed.
The site selection criteria prioritize areas where a site area of 60,000㎡ or more can be secured, considering ▲ the willingness of local residents to attract the facility ▲ distance from residential areas to minimize complaints ▲ urgency of installation for the shortest possible construction period.
Once the site is decided, resident benefit facilities equivalent to 20% of the facility construction cost (about 40 billion KRW) will be installed in the surrounding area or supported as a contribution to the resident support fund.
In addition, from the year the facility starts operation until the end of its use, the resident support fund will be provided within 20% of the annual household waste delivery fee (about 500 million KRW).
After the recruitment is completed, the city plans to form a site selection committee according to relevant laws, conduct feasibility studies of candidate sites (or expert reviews), and strategic environmental impact assessments to decide the final site.
A city official said, “We will contribute to creating a pleasant residential environment by establishing a foundation that can stably process household waste through optimal site selection.”
