Mokpo National University Selected as the Only 'Social Economy Leading University' in the Honam Region

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol) has been selected as the only 'Leading University for Social Economy' in the Honam region for 2023.

According to Mokpo National University on the 6th, the 'Leading University for Social Economy' project, hosted by the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency, aims to nurture key talents in social economy needed by local communities and workplaces by providing social economy-related education and field experiences to university undergraduates or key leaders in the private and public sectors using the university's specialized educational infrastructure.

Mokpo National University will operate the Leading University for Social Economy project until December 15, along with four other prestigious domestic universities including Seoul National University.

During the project period, Mokpo National University plans to cultivate prospective social entrepreneurs who will exert positive influence in the local community by offering programs such as △convergent education consisting of experiential career education and theoretical classes (including the spirit of social entrepreneurs) for university undergraduates △mentoring connections with local social entrepreneurs △social enterprise internships (workplace experience).

President Song Ha-cheol said, “Social entrepreneurs who look warmly at the marginalized parts of society are just as essential as innovative entrepreneurs who challenge with new ideas,” and added, “We ask for the local community’s great interest in the Leading University for Social Economy project operated by Mokpo National University this year.”

He also said, “Please note that among the universities selected as Leading Universities for Social Economy, our university is the only one to have established an educational curriculum targeting undergraduates,” and added, “Going forward, our university will prioritize students and build a demand-centered education system with a virtuous cycle structure encompassing admission, education, and employment.”
