Expansion of Support Programs for 'National Veterans' in Hwasun-gun

Increase in Veterans Allowances and Establishment of New Allowances for Families (Spouses) of War Veterans

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 6th that it has been implementing various support projects since January this year, including an increase in allowances for national merit recipients and the establishment of allowances for surviving spouses of veterans, to expand compensation and courtesy for national merit recipients.

The allowance increase reflects the inflation rate in 2023.

The veterans' allowance for national merit recipients was raised from 50,000 won to 70,000 won, and the honorary allowance for veterans was unified and increased from 70,000 won (Vietnam War veterans) and 80,000 won (Korean War veterans) to 100,000 won.

As a new project, an allowance for surviving spouses of veterans and a funeral supplies support project for national merit recipients were established.

The allowance for surviving spouses of veterans is limited to the spouses of veterans, providing 50,000 won monthly, and applications can be made through the administrative welfare centers in the resident's town or township.

For 2023 only, payments will be retroactively made from January regardless of the application month; however, if the merit recipient died in 2023 or is a new resident, payments will start from the application month.

The funeral supplies support project for national merit recipients provides a set of eco-friendly funeral supplies when a national merit recipient passes away.

Applications and receipt of funeral supplies can be made at the Welfare Planning Team of the Social Welfare Division (weekdays during the day) or the Hwasun-gun Office duty room (weekdays at night or holidays).

As the average age of national merit recipients residing in the jurisdiction exceeds 75 years this year, the expansion of these projects by the county is expected to help honor the national merit recipients and their families and stabilize their lives.

County Governor Gu Bokgyu said, “It is our county’s natural duty to repay the noble sacrifices of national merit recipients who have devoted themselves to the country until the end,” and added, “We will continue to strive to implement policies that provide practical help to national merit recipients.”
