Collision Between 6400t Cargo Ship and 140t Fishing Vessel
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Yeosu Maritime Police Station (Chief Park Je-su) announced on the 5th that "9 crew members aboard a fishing vessel sustained various injuries due to a collision between a cargo ship and a fishing vessel near Yeon-do, Yeosu."
According to Yeosu Maritime Police, at around 7:55 PM on the same day, a 6,400-ton cargo ship A (registered in Busan, 13 crew members aboard) and a 140-ton fishing vessel (registered in Yeosu, gillnet carrier, 13 crew members aboard) collided 12.9 km southwest off Yeon-do, Nam-myeon, Yeosu City, as reported by the Yeosu Coastal Traffic Control Center (VTS).

After receiving the report, Yeosu Maritime Police dispatched nearby patrol vessels and rescue teams, and the patrol vessels arrived about 15 minutes after the report to check the safety status of the crew and vessels.
As a result of the accident, part of the bow of the cargo ship was damaged, and the stern of the fishing vessel was partially damaged. Nine crew members aboard the fishing vessel (7 Koreans, 2 foreigners) sustained various injuries (3 serious, 6 minor) and were urgently transported to nearby land and handed over to the 119 emergency medical team.
The injured crew members are reported to be in stable condition without life-threatening injuries. The accident is presumed to have occurred due to negligence in navigation while both the cargo ship and fishing vessel were underway.
A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, "We plan to accurately determine the cause of the accident by interviewing the captain and crew."
