"Risk of Escape and Evidence Tampering"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Song Mo, former director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), who is accused of receiving hundreds of millions of won in bribes in exchange for personnel benefits, has been detained.
According to the legal community on the 6th, Judge Kim Hyunjun of the Seoul Eastern District Court issued an arrest warrant for Song on the 4th, citing "concerns of flight risk and evidence tampering."
Earlier, the Board of Audit and Inspection requested the prosecution at the end of last year to investigate Song and executives suspected of receiving illicit payments. The audit revealed that Song, who concurrently served as chairman of the KOICA personnel committee, received 385 million won from about 20 people in exchange for personnel favors such as promotions and contract benefits.
Accordingly, the prosecution arrested and investigated Song and filed for an arrest warrant on the 3rd.
