LS Electric, Korea's First Industrial Automation R&D Security Certification... "Management from the Start"

Acquisition in Industrial Automation Control Systems and Operational Technology
"Data Center, Smart Factory Automation Solution Supply Speed"

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] LS ELECTRIC announced on the 6th that it has become the first in Korea to receive international standard certification for research and development (R&D) process security. The company plans to accelerate the supply of its core businesses, including data centers and smart factory automation solutions.

The company explained that it recently obtained certification from the global testing and certification organization 'TUV SUD.' It acquired certification for industrial automation product development such as PLC (programmable logic controller) and inverters. The certification is named 'IEC 62443-4-1 Information Security Certification.'

IEC 62443 is a new international standard. It supplements the existing security standard system that was limited to networks. It is necessary to establish security systems in the fields of Industrial Automation Control Systems (IACS) and Operational Technology (OT).

The certification received by LS ELECTRIC defines the requirements for the manufacturer's development process. To be certified, it must meet requirements related to security functions and expertise, component security, process and quality assurance, security architecture and design, issue handling, and security update patches and changes.

LS Electric has obtained the ‘IEC 62443-4-1 Information Security Certification’ for industrial automation product development processes such as PLCs and inverters from the global testing and certification organization ‘TUV SUD,’ becoming the first domestic company to achieve this.

Recently, using internationally certified security standard products in the industrial automation solution field has become essential. This is because connecting via networks and standardizing hardware and software have increased risks.

The company has decided to accelerate the expansion of supply for data centers, smart factories, large buildings, and railway automation solutions.

Seo Jangcheol, Executive Director and CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of LS ELECTRIC, said, "It is meaningful to receive the first domestic security certification," adding, "We will develop solutions applying security certification not only in automation but also in the power equipment field to increase market dominance."

Seo Jungwook, CEO of TUV SUD Korea, said, "We are very pleased to grant LS ELECTRIC the first domestic IEC 62443 certification," and added, "We will continue to strive to revitalize the industrial security field."

LS ELECTRIC has signed a business agreement with TUV SUD. Based on risk assessment processes, they plan to promote mutual cooperation in service areas. The cooperation fields include electrical safety, functional safety, cybersecurity, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), software quality assurance, and free open-source software.
