At around 3:50 PM on the same day, the Mokpo Coast Guard dispatched a 68-ton tugboat and a 200-ton crane ship from Odo Pier, Amtae-myeon, Sinan-gun, heading to the accident site.
The expected arrival time is around 8:20 PM, and considering the situation on site, they plan to begin salvage operations.
Earlier, at 11:19 PM on the 4th, a report was received that fishing boat A, a 24-ton nearshore trap boat (registered in Incheon) carrying 12 people, capsized 16.6 km west of Daebichi Island, Imja-myeon, Sinan-gun.
Immediately after receiving the report, the Coast Guard dispatched patrol vessels and aircraft to the scene, and requested a merchant ship navigating 7.4 km from the accident site to assist. Three of the 12 crew members were rescued, and their health condition was confirmed to be good.
The rescued crew explained that the engine room suddenly flooded with seawater, causing the boat to quickly overturn and capsize.
It was confirmed that boat A had departed from Seomang Port, Jindo, at 2:58 PM on the 2nd and was navigating to begin fishing operations.
The Coast Guard is expanding the search area to intensively search for the remaining 9 missing persons.
Twenty-two Coast Guard vessels, five Navy vessels, four government ships, two Coast Guard aircraft, and two military aircraft are conducting nighttime searches.
They are dividing the sea area around the accident site into nine zones, covering 44.4 km east-west and 55.5 km north-south, to conduct the search overnight.
