[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A man in his 60s who reported that he would harm President Yoon Seok-yeol while intoxicated was apprehended by the police.
On the 5th, the Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced that they had arrested a man in his 60s, Mr. A, on charges including threats the previous day.
Mr. A is accused of calling 112 three times around 10:10 PM the previous day, reporting that he was heading toward the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, to harm President Yoon. Mr. A was intoxicated at the time. The police reportedly tracked his location to identify his whereabouts.
After apprehending Mr. A, the police referred him to a summary trial. A summary trial is a system where minor criminal cases punishable by a fine of 200,000 won or less are handled without formal criminal proceedings, based on the police chief's request for a simplified trial.
