[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Dongwon Group is pursuing the acquisition of McDonald's Korea.
According to the distribution industry on the 5th, Dongwon Group's holding company Dongwon Industries participated solely in the preliminary bidding for the sale of McDonald's Korea last month. The first due diligence was conducted last week, and it is currently known to be in the price negotiation stage. The headquarters holds 100% of the shares of McDonald's Korea.
This is the second attempt by Dongwon Group to acquire McDonald's Korea, following the first in 2016. At that time, the global private equity firm Carlyle formed a consortium with Maeil Dairies to pursue the acquisition, but Maeil Dairies withdrew, causing the deal to fall through.
McDonald's Korea stated, "We are seeking a strategic partner to promote continuous growth and development in the Korean market," and added, "We are reviewing various options with external professional institutions."
