[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to decline noticeably, 14,000-level new confirmed cases were reported on the 5th.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on this day, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 14,018, bringing the total to 30,257,411. This is 606 fewer than the previous day (14,624). Although the mask-wearing mandate has been lifted, the majority of the public continues to wear masks, which is interpreted as contributing to the continued decrease in confirmed cases.
Compared to a week ago on the 29th of last month (18,864), the number decreased by 4,240, and compared to two weeks ago on the 22nd of last month (16,615), it decreased by 1,991.
The number of new confirmed cases reported on this day is the lowest in 31 weeks since July 3rd of last year (10,036), before the 6th wave officially began, based on Sunday announcements.
There were 34 imported cases on this day, 7 fewer than the previous day (41). Among the imported cases, 12 (35.3%) were arrivals from China. Excluding imported cases, there were 13,984 domestic infections.

The number of deaths on the previous day was 22, the same as the day before. The cumulative number of deaths is 33,596, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.11%.
