[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] On the 4th, the People Power Party fiercely criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, which held a large-scale outdoor rally condemning the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, saying it abandoned public welfare to protect leader Lee Jae-myung.
Senior Spokesperson Yang Geum-hee stated in a commentary that "While the Democratic Party is fully committed to shielding leader Lee Jae-myung, the government affairs are being hindered and cannot move forward at all," adding, "The Democratic Party's national report meeting is a national abandonment meeting."
Regarding the Democratic Party's criticism of President Yoon Seok-yeol, Senior Spokesperson Yang questioned, "Is it even reasonable to call a president who has been in office for less than a year a dictator and reckless just because of exposing illegal acts and corruption from the leader's personal past?" She continued, "They should stop the shielding outdoor struggle and return to the National Assembly to 'save the people’s livelihood,' not 'save Lee Jae-myung.'"
Floor Spokesperson Jang Dong-hyuk said in a briefing, "They say they will meet the people to protect leader Lee Jae-myung," adding, "It looks like a soldier who deserted to find a lover whose heart has turned away. The people's hearts have long since turned away."
Party leadership candidates also joined in through SNS. Candidate Kim Ki-hyun criticized, "The people feel not only deep sighs but anger at this bizarre reality where they rush to block corruption investigations and declare themselves a 'criminal community,'" asking, "Aren't they even ashamed?"
He added, "Rather than lining up to save criminal leader Lee Jae-myung, line up to save the people's livelihood," and argued, "If the Democratic Party wants to avoid falling into a 'second Cho Kuk incident,' the best strategy is to stop outdoor struggles and hindering government affairs immediately."
Candidate Ahn Cheol-soo criticized, "Claiming to defend democracy over Lee Jae-myung’s personal corruption is itself an insult to the people," and warned, "The more the Democratic Party radicalizes into asphalt leftists, the more the people will turn their backs on the Democratic Party."
Candidate Yoon Sang-hyun also criticized the Democratic Party's outdoor struggle, saying, "Are they going to shout again that 'Lee Jae-myung is innocent' and 'Protect Lee Jae-myung'?" and urged, "Stop the shielding National Assembly, open a National Assembly for the people's livelihood."
