[Asia Economy Reporter Tae-min Ryu] On the 5th, Seoul City announced that at the 1st Urban and Architectural Joint Committee Delegated Subcommittee held on the 3rd, it approved a revised designation and plan for the district unit planning area to build transit-oriented housing and public rental housing around 624 Donam-dong, Seongbuk-gu.
The site is located within the transit area of Gireum Station on Subway Line 4, where an aging low-rise apartment complex over 40 years old is situated. According to Seoul City, the residential environment quality was poor due to low accessibility caused by terrain differences within the complex and the lack of community facilities, necessitating improvement.
Through this district unit planning area designation and plan decision, a total of 574 apartment units will be built on a 13,756㎡ site, with buildings ranging from 7 basement floors to 29 above-ground floors.
The area will have neighborhood living facilities along Jeongneung-ro where various stores can be located, and a public pedestrian passage will be installed to improve access to Gaeunsan Neighborhood Park. Facilities dedicated to children and youth, such as playgrounds for children and adolescents, will be installed to provide a play and leisure environment centered on children and youth.
Seoul City stated, “Through this district unit plan decision and transit-oriented housing construction, we expect to improve the residential environment and convenience for local residents around Gireum Station, while simultaneously supplying quality public housing to contribute to housing stability for low-income citizens.”
