Seoul City and City Council Out of Sync on Early Selection of Construction Contractors for Maintenance Projects

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Metropolitan Council are showing discord over the early selection of construction companies in all redevelopment projects.

The Seoul Metropolitan Council refuted the claim that the system will be improved to allow the selection of constructors only after the approval of the establishment of the association in all redevelopment project areas, including those applied with the Rapid Integrated Planning distributed by the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 3rd, stating that this has not been discussed and is inaccurate.

The Housing and Spatial Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Chairman Min Byung-joo), which is responsible for reviewing ordinances, stated that since July this year, only project areas applied with Rapid Integrated Planning can select constructors after the approval of the establishment of the association, following the ordinance revision in December 2022. They also announced that the proposed ordinance to expand this to all redevelopment project areas will be thoroughly discussed among standing committee members, and the decision on whether to submit it to the committee and how to handle it will be made accordingly.
