This agreement is significant as it marks the first time in 18 years since the sister city relationship was established in 2005 that the heads of both organizations have come together to seek renewed development.

The city requested Gangseo-gu's active cooperation and support for ▲ promotion and participation in the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo ▲ mutual cooperation on the Hometown Love Donation Program ▲ joining the Jeonnam Love (愛) Supporters ▲ revitalization of the direct transaction market for agricultural and marine products produced in Yeosu.

Kim Tae-woo, the head of Gangseo-gu, said, “I am grateful for Yeosu City's warm hospitality,” and added, “I hope Yeosu City will take interest and participate in offering discounts to Gangseo residents at major tourist attractions in Yeosu, active promotion between local governments, and holding friendly matches between workplace clubs.”

Jeong Gi-myeong, mayor of Yeosu City, responded, “Gangseo-gu has been a long-time partner of Yeosu City, but exchanges have been difficult for a while due to COVID-19,” and said, “If the southern coastal hub city, the beautiful port Yeosu, and ‘Gangseo, creating the future through change and leaping forward with its residents’ join hands and pool their strengths, the bright future of both cities will be shared.”
