The provincial theater company announced on the 3rd that Sugungga will be staged as the regular performance for the first half of 2023.

According to the theater company, songs such as “Beom Naeryeonda” by the band Naraechi, and “Nangamhane” by Group Rock, which are also used in advertisements, are newly arranged pieces from the pansori Sugungga sections.

This production features director Jo Hyunsan of “Yesulmudae San,” who gained attention with works such as Dallae Iyagi and Son Eomneun Saeksi, which won the Best Work Award at the Spain Titirizai Festival and the World UNIMA Congress, and playwright Park Inhye, who was in charge of composition for Over the Ttechang: Munjeon Bonpuri and Arangga.

Music director Kim Hyunbo, leader of the ethnic fusion band Second Moon, who composed insert songs for dramas such as Palace, Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, and The Legend of the Blue Sea, also joins the team.

The theater company is recruiting young trainee members and general guest members to perform in Sugungga through this public recruitment.

Young trainee members must be born on or after January 1, 1989, be 34 years old or younger, and be graduates or expected graduates majoring in culture and arts, or have experience appearing in three or more professional stage productions over three years.

General guest members must have experience appearing in five or more professional stage productions over five years, with one production per year counting as one year of experience.

Selected actors will perform in the regular Sugungga performance held from May 19 to 21 this year, as well as in touring and invited performances within the province during the first half of the year.

Costs required for staying in the province for rehearsals and performances will be supported depending on conditions.

Applicants can download the application form from the announcements section of the Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Center website, fill it out, and submit the required documents and a free acting video to the Gyeongnam Provincial Theater Company email from the 7th to 1 p.m. on the 13th.

A theater company official said, “We will present Sugungga as the first fusion play that stages a harmony of tradition and modernity,” adding, “By utilizing objects such as fabric, puppets, props, and musical elements, we plan to create a work that offers visual appeal and entertainment, suitable for audiences of all ages in the province.”
