'A Significant Number of "Ghost Students" Registered, Internal Whistleblowing'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] A private university in Muan, Jeonnam, is under police investigation following allegations that it falsely registered students to prepare for the Ministry of Education evaluation.
On the 3rd, according to the Muan Police, they received a complaint alleging that a local private university fraudulently recruited new students and are conducting an investigation.
The police plan to interview the complainant and witnesses, secure and analyze evidence, and if criminal charges are found, formally register the related individuals as suspects.
There was an internal whistleblower report that a significant number of so-called "ghost students," who are registered in the university records but have no attendance history, were enrolled.
It is alleged that the number of students was manipulated to avoid penalties for under-enrollment in the Ministry of Education evaluation.
Separately from the police investigation, the education authorities also plan to conduct their own audit.
