[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The export of 'Ganghwaseom Rice,' Incheon's representative brand of rice, to Canada is progressing smoothly.
Incheon City announced on the 3rd that following the initial export of 20 tons of Ganghwaseom Rice to Canada in December last year, it plans to export a total of 100 tons in five shipments this year.
The second shipment of 20 tons was loaded today at the rice milling factory of the Ganghwa County Nonghyup Rice Cooperative Joint Business Corporation and will depart for Toronto, Canada, via Busan Port on the 7th.
Previously, in October last year, Incheon City, Ganghwa County, and Galleria KFT, a distribution and logistics company in Toronto, Canada, signed an export agreement for Ganghwaseom Rice. The first export shipment began selling at local supermarkets in Toronto last month and is now appearing on residents' tables.
Ganghwaseom Rice is grown in the clean area of Ganghwa Island, free from pollution-causing businesses, under ample sunlight, in rice paddies rich in microorganisms and magnesium, earning a reputation for high quality and excellent taste.
The city expects that pioneering new export markets amid falling rice prices will somewhat ease farmers' concerns. Additionally, it plans to select agricultural processed products suitable for overseas sales in the first half of this year and prepare for their export.
An official from Incheon City stated, "With Ganghwaseom Rice opening the door to overseas markets through exports to Canada, we will put more effort into the production and quality management of export agricultural products."
