Donation Ceremony at City Hall on the 3rd at 4:30 PM
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City will hold the ‘Monthly Spare Salary Donation Ceremony by City Employees’ at 4:30 PM on the 3rd in the protocol room on the 7th floor of City Hall.
The ‘Monthly Spare Salary Donation Project’ involves donating 10,000 KRW or the spare change under 1,000 KRW (a fixed monthly amount is also possible) from each month’s salary. It started in April 2008 to support the independence of children in child welfare facilities and has been steadily ongoing for more than 10 years.
The ceremony will be attended by Mayor Park Hyung-joon, Na Young-chan, president of the Child Welfare Association, and about 10 related personnel including Choi Kwang-min, chairman of the City Government Employees’ Labor Union. The donor representative, Chairman Choi Kwang-min, will deliver 48.4 million KRW collected last year from Busan City and affiliated institution employees to the institution.
The donated funds will be provided in February to 88 youths leaving child welfare facilities, with 550,000 KRW per person. Through this spare salary donation ceremony, now in its 15th year, a total of about 770 million KRW in independence support funds has been delivered to 1,762 people so far.
Currently, about 2,400 donors, including Busan City employees, district and county staff, Busan Welfare Development Institute, and Busan Transportation Culture Training Center employees, participate steadily. Busan City plans to promote the project year-round to encourage more employees to voluntarily participate.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “I hope the donation we deliver today will empower young people starting to stand on their own and that Busan City will accompany them as a strong support system. Our city is implementing various support policies for youth preparing for independence, and we will strive to provide stable welfare services so that children can freely pursue their dreams within a safe environment.”
Those who wish to participate in the donation project can contact the Busan Child Welfare Association.
Busan City provides 10 million KRW per person as an independence settlement fund to youths leaving child welfare facilities, supports entrance fees and first semester tuition for those entering university, and provides a monthly independence allowance of 400,000 KRW to help their stable social settlement.
