[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Standard Field Internship Semester Program (Co-op) operated by Inha University is receiving positive responses from students.
The Standard Field Internship Semester Program is a system operated to protect students' rights and enhance quality in accordance with the Ministry of Education's 'University Student Field Internship Semester Operation Regulations.' Based on the industry-academia cooperation relationship between universities and institutions, it is a program that provides students with job training related to their majors, allowing them to gain practical skills through on-site job training at institutions.
According to Inha University on the 3rd, the number of students participating in the Standard Field Internship Semester Program has steadily increased each year: 371 in the 2020 academic year, 583 in 2021, and 634 in 2022. Currently, recruitment for field interns for the first semester of this year is underway, and the number of participating students is expected to exceed that of the previous year.
The number of institutions participating in the Standard Field Internship Semester Program has also increased. In the 2022 academic year, 259 institutions participated, an increase of 63 institutions (32.1%) compared to 196 institutions in 2020.
Various institutions participate in Inha University's Standard Field Internship Semester Program, including Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation, Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) Incheon Headquarters, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanjin, and Hanwha Savings Bank. Recently, participation from public enterprises and government-funded research institutes, which are preferred by students, has been increasing.

Inha University operates an integrated one-on-one counseling program for students participating in the Standard Field Internship Semester Program to match them with institutions that fit their major and career plans.
Additionally, for students who cannot participate in the Standard Field Internship Semester Program at their desired institutions, separate consulting is provided to increase satisfaction. Moving forward, the university plans to expand support for participating institutions and students by hosting company invitation briefings and providing student mock interview guidance.
Jung Tae-wook, Director of the Inha University Field Internship Support Center, said, "Field internships are a great opportunity to enhance major competencies through practical experience," and added, "We will actively support more students to develop employment competitiveness and use the Standard Field Internship Semester Program as a channel for exploring and designing career paths suited to their aptitudes."
