‘Urban Planning Facility (Cultural Facility) Decision (Draft)’ Passed by Seoul City Urban Planning Committee
Construction of Cultural and Sports Facility with a Total Floor Area of 8,936㎡
Expected to Contribute to Guaranteeing Leisure Activities and Promoting Community Sports for Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) announced that the ‘Urban Planning Facility (Cultural Facility) Decision (Draft)’ was approved at the 2nd Seoul City Urban Planning Committee held on the 1st of this month.
With this, the first step has been taken to officially launch the construction project of the ‘Cultural and Sports Complex Center’ in the area of 168-2, Myeonmok-dong, Jungnang-gu, at the Myeonmok Retention Basin.
The Myeonmok Retention Basin was installed in 1976 to prevent flood damage, and since 1999, most of the retention basin area has been covered, currently being used as a public parking lot and auxiliary facilities (large supermarket).
With the approval of this review, it is now possible to add two additional floors above the existing auxiliary facilities (large supermarket) on the covered parking lot of the Myeonmok Retention Basin to install cultural and sports spaces.
The construction scale will be 2 to 3 floors above ground with a total floor area of 8,936㎡, and the main facilities will include a multipurpose gymnasium (4,606㎡), a public library (1,856㎡), a youth cultural center (1,125㎡), and social welfare facilities (1,349㎡).
In particular, it will be developed as a multipurpose space including a gymnasium where indoor sports can be enjoyed regardless of the season, youth facilities where young people can enjoy healthy and pleasant leisure activities, and social welfare facilities related to infants and toddlers, thereby guaranteeing leisure activities for residents.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, expressed his expectations, saying, “By creating cultural and sports facilities that are necessary for the region, we will improve the quality of life for residents and contribute to the activation of community sports.”
The construction of the Myeonmok Retention Basin Cultural and Sports Complex Center is planned to be actively promoted with a goal to start construction next year after this year’s architectural design competition.
