Increase in General High School and Arts & Sports Quota Among Seoul National University Regular Admission Successful Applicants

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Among this year's regular admission general selection successful candidates at Seoul National University, 52.7% were from general high schools, an increase of 1.5 percentage points compared to the previous year, Seoul National University announced on the 2nd. The percentage from arts and physical education high schools rose by 4.1 percentage points to 7.9% during the same period.


This year, 1,415 new students were selected through the regular admission process. Of these, 1,206 were through the general selection, 136 through the regional balance selection, 68 through the special opportunity balance selection II, and 5 through the special opportunity balance selection III.


The second largest group came from autonomous private high schools at 25.8%, which is a decrease of 2.1 percentage points from last year. Gifted high schools accounted for 3.3%, an increase of 0.8 percentage points. Foreign language high schools and autonomous public high schools each accounted for 3.0%, decreasing by 0.5 percentage points and 2.1 percentage points respectively. Science high schools and GED holders each made up about 1.4%, decreasing by 1.0 percentage point and 1.6 percentage points respectively.

In the special opportunity balance selection III for special education candidates and North Korean defectors, 4 special education candidates and 1 North Korean defector were admitted. This is the first time in three years since the 2020 academic year that a North Korean defector has been admitted through regular admission. The successful candidate came from the College of Social Sciences, Department of Political Science and International Relations.


Among the successful candidates in the regular admission, current students accounted for 41.1%, an increase of 2.7 percentage points from last year. Repeaters (students retaking the exam) accounted for 39.7%, increasing by 1.6 percentage points during the same period. Students taking the exam for the third time or more decreased by 2.9 percentage points to 17.6%. Female students accounted for 35.7%.


Successful candidates in the regular admission must register between 9:00 AM on the 7th and 4:00 PM on the 9th of this month. Seoul National University plans to announce additional successful candidates three times on the 10th, 14th, and 16th if there are any no-shows.
