[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Japanese luxury brand Lexus announced the four final winning entries of its international design competition on the 2nd. The event targets emerging creators, with Paola Antonelli, Karim Rashid, and Simon Humphries serving as judges. A total of 2,068 entries were submitted from 63 countries. According to the company, the selections were based on predictability, innovation, aesthetics, and happiness enhancement.
Kyung-ho Park and Ye-jin Heo, majoring in industrial design at Hanyang University, won with "Zero Back." It is a clothing packaging made by cutting paper detergent containing water-soluble plastic. Before wearing new clothes, you put the bag and clothes together in the washing machine and wash them. It prevents waste of packaging and removes chemicals from the clothes.
Pavels Hedstrom, living in Sweden and Denmark, received an award for "Fog X," a portable expandable shelter that can convert fog into drinking water. Jiaming Liu from China won for a power-free humidifier made by 3D printing using recycled ceramics, and the design team Temporary Office in the United States was awarded for a 3D contour printing puzzle for the visually impaired.
Antonelli said, "I continue to discover the evolution of the design field in that young designers are increasingly adopting an ideal yet realistic perspective that encompasses not only humanity but all beings."
The winning works will undergo a mentoring program for the next three months to refine and materialize the ideas into prototypes. This year, for the first time, the public will participate in selecting one of the winning works.
