'Jeonnam Webtoon Festival' Held in Suncheon

Leap to a Hub City for the Webtoon Industry, Scheduled for September

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it has been selected for the “1st Jeonnam Webtoon Festival” contest project hosted by Jeollanam-do.

The city believes it was selected for the contest due to high evaluations of its commitment to project promotion, cooperation with related companies and organizations, and the potential to utilize local talent.

Last year, the city demonstrated its capabilities as a platform to expand the enjoyment of local webtoon culture and arts by hosting the “2022 Suncheon Webtoon Festival,” the first of its kind in the Honam region.

The “1st Jeonnam Webtoon Festival,” held for the first time under the Jeonnam title, is scheduled to take place this September at the Suncheon Global Webtoon Center area and will feature a variety of programs including official events, exchanges, exhibitions, competitions, and side events.

The flagship program, the Webtoon Job Fair, plans to thoroughly prepare in advance to provide opportunities for interaction between students from provincial areas and companies from the metropolitan area, aiming to connect participants to employment. The cosplay competition, which received the best response last year, will strengthen pre-event promotion to recruit participants.

A Suncheon city official said, “Building on the experience and know-how from last year’s webtoon festival, we will establish this year’s event as one of the top three webtoon festivals nationwide with richer and more diverse programs.”
