[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] The Naju City Council of Jeollanam-do (Chairman Lee Sangman) unanimously adopted the "Resolution Urging the Payment of Energy Price Support Funds" at the 1st plenary session of the 249th Naju City Council (extraordinary session) on the 2nd, to alleviate the energy cost burden on low-income citizens recently hit by the "heating cost bomb."
According to the Naju City Council on that day, the resolution includes urging Jeollanam-do and Naju City to actively consider providing energy price support funds to energy-vulnerable groups and calls for the immediate payment of government energy price support funds to help recover the low-income economy.
Park Sojun, the council member who proposed the resolution, said, "The voices of lament from the public are growing louder due to the rising public utility fees, high interest rates, and high inflation along with heating costs," adding, "It is a time when the roles of the government and local governments are more necessary than ever."
He continued, "Energy price support funds should be promoted in a way that alleviates the burden on citizens struggling with gas fees, public utility charges, and high inflation, and leads to the recovery of people's livelihoods."
In particular, the resolution urged prompt measures reflecting the reality that, amid the deepening worries of low-income citizens due to the "heating cost bomb," the energy voucher budget for low-income households was cut by 17% compared to last year.
