[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 2nd at midnight that 16,862 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 30,213,928.
The number of new cases on this day decreased by 18,224 compared to a week ago on the 26th, when cases surged to 35,086 due to an increase in testing immediately after the Lunar New Year holiday. It also decreased by 12,943 compared to two weeks ago on the 19th of last month, when there were 29,805 cases. This is the lowest number for a Thursday in 31 weeks since June 30 of last year (9,587 cases).
Among the new confirmed cases, 45 were imported cases, an increase of 17 from the previous day (28 cases). Of the imported cases, 18 (40%) were arrivals from China.
The number of critically ill patients hospitalized was 345, down 14 from the previous day, marking three consecutive days in the 300s. The number of deaths was 36, six fewer than the previous day (42). The cumulative death toll stands at 33,522, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.11%.
