Wireless Control and Operation Forklift Patent Application by Busan Smart Logistics Company

Intelligent Unmanned Automated Smart Logistics System

Syscon 'Haptic Joystick Conversion Module Forklift'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City announced that Syscon has filed a patent for a ‘forklift equipped with a wireless-operated haptic joystick conversion module’ through the ‘Intelligent Unmanned Automated Smart Logistics System’ R&D project jointly supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Wireless Control and Operation Forklift Patent Application by Busan Smart Logistics Company A forklift equipped with a wireless control haptic joystick conversion module.

This technology is one of the technologies applied to smart logistics centers, enabling wireless forklift operation via a haptic joystick, and is equipped with an automation module that allows forklift operation based on unmanned automation during nighttime hours when manpower is insufficient.

Currently, forklifts are key equipment operated in various logistics centers in port hinterlands and inland areas, mostly operated in manned mode. In contrast, advanced ports’ smart logistics centers have introduced and operate unmanned automated forklifts.

Operating forklifts equipped with the haptic joystick module has the advantage of preventing various accidents such as cargo collapse and collisions with storage racks and equipment, which occur in conventional manned forklift operation methods, enabling safe cargo handling and transportation.

Additionally, this technology includes an unmanned automation algorithm, allowing 24-hour unmanned operation of various tasks such as cargo loading and transportation, similar to the yard operation method of Busan Port New Port container terminal, thereby enhancing productivity and efficiency of logistics centers.

Jung Imsu, Director of the Busan City Transportation Bureau, said, “The technology for which this patent was filed is one of the core technologies of the R&D project promoted by our city and the Ministry of Science and ICT. It can become an innovative technology leading the smartification of logistics centers operating in the Busan Port hinterland and industrial complexes in the future, and we plan to actively support commercialization and technology adoption expansion.”

The Intelligent Unmanned Automated Smart Logistics System R&D project is a logistics-related R&D project in the Busan area with an investment of about 14 billion KRW from 2020 to 2025. After completing the first phase last year, commercialization research for field introduction is scheduled to be actively promoted starting this year.
