[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Seoul's autonomous districts have decided to provide an additional 100,000 KRW per household to vulnerable groups struggling with soaring heating costs.
On the 1st, the Seoul City District Mayors' Council announced that a total of 5.5 billion KRW in additional heating cost support will be provided at the district level to vulnerable groups.
The additional support targets approximately 55,000 households excluded from Seoul's heating cost support, including Seoul-type basic livelihood security recipients, near-poor groups, and single-parent families. This support is separate from the government's energy voucher program.
The 25 autonomous districts plan to provide 100,000 KRW in cash per eligible household by the 20th of this month without requiring separate applications.
Earlier, the central government doubled the winter energy voucher support amount for vulnerable groups, and Seoul City decided to provide 100,000 KRW per household to 300,000 basic livelihood security recipients starting from the 10th of this month.
Lee Seongheon, chairman of the District Mayors' Council, said, "We hope this support will help vulnerable groups who are struggling due to the unprecedented cold wave and the sharp rise in energy prices. We will do our best to eliminate energy blind spots through continuous monitoring even after the heating cost support."
