The International Dublin Literary Award of Ireland, regarded as a world-class literary prize alongside the Nobel Prize and the Booker Prize, is awarded annually to English-language novels. The prize money is 100,000 euros (approximately 130 million KRW). For translated works, the author and translator share 75,000 euros and 25,000 euros respectively. The second shortlist will be announced on March 28, and the final winner on May 25.

In a phone interview with this outlet, Park Sang-young said, "I am very happy that my novel is being read in places I do not know," and added, "The Dublin Literary Award is a prize I have known for a long time because authors I admire have won it, so I am even more delighted." Previous recipients of the award include Orhan Pamuk, Herta M?ller, and Anna Burns.

Daedosi-ui Sarangbeop is a queer novel that deals with the life and love of ‘I,’ a gay man in his early 30s. It was published domestically in 2019 and received critical acclaim, including winning the Shin Dong-yup Literary Award in 2021. The cumulative sales have reached 100,000 copies. Since 2021, it has been exported to 20 countries, including the United States.

Last year, along with writer Jeong Bora’s Jeoju Tokki (Ajac), it was nominated for the Booker Prize. At that time, the judging panel described it as "a lively, cheerful, and moving novel that depicts both the sparkling night world and the gloomy morning of Seoul."
