[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] Eleven candidates have thrown their hats into the ring for the next Seoul National University Hospital director position, which had been delayed in appointment after the expiration of Director Kim Yeonsu's term last year.
On the 1st, a Seoul National University Hospital official stated that the board of directors received applications for the new director position by the deadline on the 31st of last month, with 11 professors ultimately applying.
Director Kim Yeonsu, whose term ended in May last year, gave up on seeking reappointment, but due to delays in the selection process for the next director, he has been serving as director for eight months. This is in accordance with the regulation that the term of the Seoul National University Hospital director is automatically extended until the next director is appointed.
The board of directors is expected to shortlist candidates in the first round within this month. Then, at the board meeting scheduled for the 25th, the first and second priority candidates will be selected and recommended to the Ministry of Education. Subsequently, after the Minister of Education's proposal, the President appoints the new director. The board consists of the Seoul National University President (chairperson), Dean of Seoul National University College of Medicine, Director of Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Director of Seoul National University Hospital, Vice Ministers of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and two outside directors.
Previously, the hospital board, through a public recruitment in August last year, had recommended two candidates out of five applicants as final candidates for the director position, but since the Presidential Office rejected all, a re-recruitment was conducted.
