Cityscape Improvement 'Toktok'
Automatic Warning Transmission System
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City is making every effort to eradicate illegal advertisements through the so-called ‘automatic call bomb’ automatic warning call system introduced last year for the maintenance of illegal advertisements.
The ‘automatic warning call system’ targets phone numbers displayed on illegal banners, business card-type flyers, and posters, and continuously makes calls by changing the phone number each time at set intervals (20 minutes, 10 minutes, etc.), delivering warning messages about violations of the Outdoor Advertising Act and administrative measures to encourage voluntary cessation of illegal activities.
Until now, Pohang City has been cracking down on illegal activities such as prostitution, apartment sale banners, and illegal loan business business card-type advertisements by utilizing collection reward systems, senior citizen jobs, and illegal advertisement maintenance teams, but there were limitations in enforcement due to frequent illegal distribution at night.
However, since the introduction of the ‘automatic warning call system’ last year, illegal advertisements have significantly decreased through awareness improvement of business owners regarding illegal activities, showing a notable effect on urban aesthetics improvement. Over the past year, 945 cases of illegal advertisements such as banners, flyers, and business cards have been removed.
Park Byung-jun, head of the Architecture and Design Division, said, “Following last year’s commendation for outstanding reporters of illegal advertisements to encourage citizens’ interest in urban aesthetics improvement, we will do our best to create a clean and pleasant living environment by strengthening the maintenance of illegal advertisements through the introduction of the automatic warning call system.”
