[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] SK Eco Plant's subsidiary Samkang M&T announced on the 1st that it changed its name to SK Ocean Plant the day before and unveiled a new corporate identity (CI) and future vision. SK Ocean Plant is a coined term combining "Ocean," meaning sea, and "Plant," meaning to plant. It embodies the aspiration to plant the future in the sea, which holds infinite possibilities.

With the name change, SK Ocean Plant presented a vision to continue growing as the world's leading offshore wind power specialist company. Compared to onshore wind power, offshore wind power allows for larger turbines and large-scale power generation complexes, enabling cost reduction through economies of scale. There are no elements that obstruct wind flow, and it has advantages in terms of acceptance compared to onshore wind power, such as less noise and landscape disruption. Therefore, the global offshore wind power market size is expected to grow rapidly.
SK Ocean Plant plans to expand its business scope and global bases based on its technological capabilities in offshore wind power substructure with global competitiveness. Building on the know-how of domestic production of thick-walled steel pipes, which were entirely imported until 2000, SK Ocean Plant has secured solid competitiveness not only in offshore wind power substructures but also plans to expand its business to floating offshore wind power and offshore substations, covering the entire offshore wind power sector.
Lee Seung-chul, CEO of SK Ocean Plant, stated, "As a member of SK Group, we will strengthen our position as a world-class offshore wind power specialist company."
